Save A Horse Program

With feed prices souring sky high, many horse owners are having to get rid of their beloved pets because they can no longer care for them properly. Only no one wants them so they cannot even give them away.

Unfortunately 2 beautiful horses were dumped just the other day near my home. I wanted to take them in, but due to the fact that we already own 14 horses we lacked the space and extra funds to take them in. That is why we are starting this program. We had to call the Proper Officials to have them picked up and hauled out. We fear their outcome may not be a pretty one and they were beautiful horses. Even gentle enough to approach out in total freedom. This shows they were loved and are unafraid of human contact. Their feet had been well manicured and their weight was good when they were dropped off - Two weeks later their wieght was dropping quickly on nothing but mountain forage. It was a very sad situation. These horses once were loved and well taken care of. Then due to the poor market [no one to buy]and high feed prices the owners apparently could not stand to have them and not be able to care for them properly as they could no longer afford to take care of them so they were hauled out to the mountain and "set them free." The plain ugly fact is they were dropped off, deserted to survive on their own.

Therefore DCROA has started a new program which we hope those who are blessed enough to have enough to share will do so to help these poor horses.

Our program does not take the horses away from their owners. Instead we help the owners to be able to provide for their beloved animals. We monitor the horses in our program to make sure the animals are in good homes, and we educate the owners where they need it. We have found homes for horses who the owners do not wish to keep.

We only help support horses in good and loving homes, we do not help support horses in abusive homes but rather turn those over to the Animal Control Authorities to deal with the owners.

Toby - 25 year old Pony Mule - Loved by Michael 12 years old

This mule is in need of an operation that will cost aproximately $500.00 - Toby's teeth needs to be cut down so he can chew his food. He is fed well but can not get it to his stomach as he can not chew it and most of it just falls out on the ground in front of him so he is still very thin. with this operation Toby will be able to eat his food and will thrive again.

Toby had received the first round of his teeth work. He goes back in April 09 to finish getting this operation completed.

Will you help by donating to help cover this simple operation?
